  • What Makes An Heirloom So Valuable?

You have probably heard the word "heirloom" used in many different ways. Webster's Dictionary describes an heirloom as something valuable owned by a family for years and passed down from generation to generation.

While an heirloom can be valuable to the recipient because of sentimental purposes or inheriting it, an heirloom is something worthy of being passed down. An heirloom is something that lasts for generations.

Although it may show some marks of age, there is a high level of quality from which it has been created at the very beginning. The same is true when it comes to furniture. There is a meticulous level of extremely high quality it has to be built within order to endure and be worthy of passing down from generation to generation.

You could take an ordinary piece of furniture and pass it down but over the years it will fall apart and the cycle will end. This is why an heirloom quality piece of furniture is so valuable. It lasts and endures the test of time.

  • Customized Heirloom Quality Furniture

What is the difference between the furniture you buy at custom furniture boutique compared to heirloom quality furniture? That's pretty simple to explain. Heirloom quality furniture can be passed down to your great-grandchildren and maintain the same integrity and quality as when it was new, where the other furniture cannot.

Even though Noel Woodworks creates and builds everything with a high level of quality, heirloom quality takes it to a different level. Along with that level of quality comes a higher cost than the typical furniture you may find at the High-End Custom Furniture boutiques. We understand not everyone one needs or wants heirloom quality furniture. However, for those who do, we will customize anything you want.

The word "heirloom" can sometimes be confused with the word "antique" and therefore when people hear of heirloom furniture or heirloom reproduction they automatically think of replicating or reproducing a classic piece of antique furniture. They think of furniture made by master craftsman such as Chippendale, Sheraton, Hepplewhite and more. As we can reproduce anything from the past, we will also design and customize anything you can imagine with heirloom quality.

If there are a couple of things that inspire you from a Chippendale piece and then something from a Sheraton piece that you want to join together into one piece of furniture, we will do it. We will use our free consultation time to discuss everything you are wanting and design your one-of-a-kind unique heirloom quality piece that you can pass down the family line for years to come.

  • Heirloom Furniture Brings Generations Together

Heirloom furniture can span decades of time, however, it can bring family generations together through shared memories. Imagine having an antique table that was passed down to you from a grandparent. Now imagine being able to pass that same table down to your kid. How incredible would that be?

The history of that table shared between multiple generations of family members is special. Moreover, the only way this could happen is because the quality of that table lasted through all those years. So what are some of the factors that enable our heirloom quality furniture to stand the test of time?

Materials: The lumber we use is hand selected by us. We make sure the moisture content is properly air dried and kiln dried to between 6-8 % before doing anything else. We use only solid woods and often hardwoods like cherry, oak, mahogany, and walnut. Rarely, if ever, are faux wood, plastic laminates used. We use only the finest hardwoods and veneers available today.

Construction: Designing an heirloom from the beginning and knowing exactly how all the pieces are going to connect is important. Our attention to detail given to the construction of our heirloom-quality furniture still relies on time-honored techniques such as dovetail joints, pegged mortises, and tenons.

Finishing: Throughout the building process there are multiple stages of preparation along with sanding that we do. This helps to bring out the beauty of the wood's grain while helping it to absorb stains evenly. Our proper sanding techniques ensure that the stain sinks well into the wood, which will help it retain the beauty and color for years to come. We also thoroughly apply the appropriate high-quality protective finishes that help to prevent water damage or any other kind of damage.

Now that you know a little more about our heirloom furniture re-production, you should be able to make a decision whether you want to have something of such high quality to pass down to your kids and so on.
