Noel Woodworks offers complete restorations and repair services on all your special wooden treasures. We perform both on-site and off-site restorations. The type of restoration needed and other various factors would determine where the restoration will be performed. If your furniture needs to be picked up we will come, pick it up, and deliver it back to you.

Many restorations/repairs will only need minor touch-ups while others may need the whole works from stripping, replacing parts, sanding, re-finishing etc… We will discuss all these things during our free consultation time and we will discuss the best options for your restoration/repair.

Our restoration process includes various steps depending on the attention that is required to bring your wooden treasure back to life. In some cases, there may be parts that need to be repaired or replaced with new parts. Disassembling an item may be necessary and this would incur that much of the item would need to be rebuilt. Other items may just need small touch ups and refinishing. No matter the extent of restoration needed; we will handle it with the same level of expert craftsmanship and care. We commit ourselves to a high standard and your satisfaction is our main priority.

Understanding The Restoration Process

An average restoration involves several steps to ensure that your furniture comes out looking like it did when it was brand new. After looking at the item and assessing what needs to be done, these following steps are implemented with precision and care. We start by disassembling the piece and removing any hardware, mirrors, glass, or upholstery that needs to be removed down to the bare frame. Next step is to strip the wood of old lacquers, stains, or paint. We strip by hand only and do not strip with anything that can be harmful to your furniture.
     
Our next step is making all necessary repairs; everything from basic re-gluing of chairs to veneering, inlaying, and marquetry, intricate carvings and turnings and fabricating missing pieces and parts. Then the furniture is ready to be sanded and this is done with a range of different sandpapers. Usually sanding is done by hand, but we also use a machine when necessary, depending on what the furniture needs. 

Our next procedure involves applying coats of the appropriate finish such as catalyzed lacquer, shellac and more. We use time-honored hand rub techniques when appropriate. Then we polish all the hardware when applicable and then reassemble the furniture. If needed we will deliver the furniture back to you.
